Nintendo has officially revealed new hardware for the Switch 2 console, featuring a design inspired by The Legend of Zelda franchise. This announcement comes as the series approaches its 40th anniversary and in anticipation of the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The new console and accompanying Pro controllers will be available starting October 29, 2026.

The special edition hardware sports a black, gold, and green color scheme, drawing clear inspiration from series protagonist Link and the Triforce of Courage. Both the console and the Pro controllers feature a decorative arrangement of triangle-shaped decals surrounding the iconic Triforce symbol and the Hylian Crest. While the console and controllers are sold separately, purchasing the new Switch 2 variant will grant access to a set of themed Joy-Con 2 controllers. A complementary carrying case designed to protect the console's aesthetic is also being released.

This hardware launch occurs in the wake of Nintendo's decision to increase the price of the Switch 2 to $499.99, a change that began in September. Earlier in 2025, the company had already implemented price increases for the standard Nintendo Switch and its Lite and OLED models. These adjustments are attributed to a component shortage driven by artificial intelligence, which is currently affecting the broader gaming industry. Nintendo has reportedly begun notifying customers in retail environments about the forthcoming price hike.

The Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake is scheduled for release later in 2026. Details regarding the remake are sparse, though a brief preview showcased a graphical overhaul aiming for a Pixar-like aesthetic.

Separately, Nintendo concluded filming in spring 2026 for The Legend of Zelda film. The movie stars Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. This project is a collaboration between Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and veteran producer Avi Arad. Rumors suggest the film may feature Sam Neill in his final on-screen performance, though his specific role has not yet been disclosed.
