Nintendo has released a free update for its Star Fox remake on the Switch 2, version 1.2.0, adding new stages and features to its battle mode, alongside adjustments to the main campaign. The update introduces Katina, Sector X, and Venom as playable stages in battle mode, and now supports up to four players in split-screen on a single console. Lobbies will remain active even after the host departs, and new items have been added for battles.
For players engaged in the campaign, a significant visual improvement has been implemented: on-screen indicators now more clearly signal when a boss is being hit in a vulnerable spot. This addresses a common point of feedback for the remake.
Despite the Star Fox remake being released in 2026, following the appearance of Fox McCloud in the "Mario Galaxy Movie," its sales performance has reportedly not been exceptional. Nintendo may be hoping the new content will boost interest heading into the holiday season. However, its current price of $50 for the digital version, which includes a campaign under two hours, might present a challenge, especially with "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" remake also available.
Rumors suggest a new Star Fox game could be in development, potentially offering a more substantial experience in the future. In the meantime, "Star Fox Adventures," originally a GameCube title, was added to Nintendo Switch Online earlier this summer.
