Hello Games has launched No Man's Sky's 7.0 update, titled Cosmos, introducing a suite of new features and content to the enduring space exploration title. The most significant addition is the ability for players to own and customize their own space stations, a feature that has been highly requested since the game's initial launch in 2016.

With the Cosmos update, players can claim a space station, design its interior and exterior, and invite other players to visit. This feature taps into the popularity of player housing in other games and allows for further social interaction through new player alliances.

The update also expands exploration opportunities with a new Star Map that highlights points of interest and leads to new missions. Players can now discover and salvage massive "space hulks" using a gravity gun, a tool introduced earlier this year. New outposts are available for trade and interaction, though they may also present dangers from biological hazards.

Furthermore, the Cosmos update enables the construction of free-floating orbital bases anywhere in space. A new "perilous journey" has also been added, allowing players to travel to the center of their star system. Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray described these new features as "real endgame stuff" that are being tested and refined, with potential applications for the studio's upcoming game, Light No Fire.

Alongside the Cosmos update, a new expedition titled "Our Journey Continues" is available. This expedition serves as a retrospective of No Man's Sky's development, allowing players to unlock features from each of the game's 40 major updates in chronological order, complete with developer commentary and interesting facts.

The Cosmos update is free for all No Man's Sky players and is available now. Full patch notes can be found on the official No Man's Sky website.
