No Man's Sky Forsaken Update Embraces Horror, Launches on iOS

Hello Games has released Forsaken, a significant new update for its sprawling space exploration title No Man's Sky. The 7.10 update leans heavily into horror themes, introducing missions that task players with scavenging for haunted technology and biological horrors from derelict hulks, abandoned freighters, and infested outposts.

Players who brave these dangerous locations can acquire biomechanical corvette modules, allowing for ship customization that evokes a distinctly unsettling, organic aesthetic. New weapon and spacesuit styles are also available, including a larva tank helmet and a 'wriggling grub cannon' multi-tool. These items can be traded for with enigmatic collectors who are seeking the strange mementos found in the update's new points of interest.

Beyond the horror elements, the Forsaken update includes general gameplay enhancements. Players can now perform seamless warps to nearby stars by locking onto a constellation, bypassing the need to open the galaxy map. The update also introduces new postal missions, effectively turning players into galactic delivery drivers. Quality-of-life improvements include a radial menu for weapon selection and a new minimal HUD mode.

Coinciding with the Forsaken update is the long-awaited release of No Man's Sky on iOS. This mobile port, described as "impossible" by its developers, brings all of the game's extensive post-launch updates, including Forsaken, to iPhone and iPad devices. The iOS version offers a free trial for players with an iPhone 11 or newer, and boasts custom-designed touch controls, optimized battery life, and a compact 4GB file size.

This release marks another significant milestone for No Man's Sky, which has undergone a remarkable transformation since its initial launch a decade ago. The Forsaken update is the fifth major content drop in the game's 10th anniversary year, following previous updates like Remnant, Xeno Arena, The Swarm, and Cosmos. Hello Games has indicated that development is already underway for future content planned for 2027.
