Nonolith Lets You Copy-Paste The Scenery To Solve Puzzles

The upcoming puzzle platformer Nonolith offers a unique twist on progression by eschewing unlockable abilities in favor of direct environmental manipulation. Developed by Justcamh, the game casts players as a gnome trapped within a colossal living maze, granting them the power to copy, paste, move, rotate, and delete sections of the game's scenery.

This core mechanic allows for a variety of puzzle-solving approaches. Players can use these abilities to create platforms, clear paths, or even arrange environmental tiles into specific patterns to activate hidden spells. The game is structured into nine 'worlds' presented on a 3x3 grid, with the ultimate goal of escaping the Nonolith.

However, simply escaping is not the sole objective. The game's Steam page suggests a deeper level of mastery for adventurous players, promising that "Power awaits the few who dare to wield ultimate control" for those who reach the highest levels of accomplishment. The developer drew comparisons to games like Animal Well and Fez, though those titles are noted for their reliance on unlockable mechanics, a design choice Nonolith deliberately avoids.

A demo for Nonolith is available on Steam, with the full release planned for later this year. The game appears to offer a refreshing take on the puzzle-platformer genre by empowering players with direct control over the game world from the outset.
