A forthcoming puzzle game titled Object Impermanence will challenge players' understanding of reality by making game elements disappear the moment they are not in view. The core mechanic is based on the psychological concept of object permanence, the understanding that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be seen.

Developed with a design philosophy reminiscent of Portal, Object Impermanence places players in the role of a science expedition member who crash-lands on an alien planet. Exploring the ruins of a seemingly extinct civilization, players must solve puzzles by interacting with unique, alien-looking orbs. These orbs are integral to progressing, often needing to be placed in specific locations to unlock pathways, such as opening doors.

However, the titular object impermanence affects these orbs and other environmental elements. If a player looks away from an orb, it will cease to exist. This means that tasks like moving an orb through a pipe require constant visual contact; if the player averts their gaze, the orb will stop moving. The game also incorporates this mechanic into environmental challenges. For instance, a barrier like a sewer grate might be impassable while visible, but players can bypass it by turning away and walking backward, effectively making the grate non-existent from their perspective.

The trailer for Object Impermanence showcases moments where this mechanic can create tense situations, such as a train car approaching the player. By quickly looking away, the player can cause the train to disappear, avoiding a collision. The game is slated for a Q4 2026 release window and is available to wishlist on Steam, with a demo also accessible.
