The long-standing lack of significant updates for Oblivion Remastered might see resolution with the game's upcoming release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Bethesda has confirmed that this new port will include "optimisations" that the studio hopes to bring to the PC version of the game.
It has been over a year since Oblivion Remastered received its last major update, version 1.2, which was intended to enhance performance and address several bugs present since the game's launch. Despite persistent issues, no substantial patches have been released for the Elder Scrolls 4 title since then.
The developer's recent statement suggests a potential shift. In response to a query from YouTuber MrMattyPlays regarding planned patches for the Switch 2 release, scheduled for August 11th, Bethesda noted that the team responsible for remasters is currently focused on the Switch 2 launch. They added that this version "has optimisations we hope to bring back to console/PC."
While this does not constitute a definitive promise of an imminent PC patch, it offers an indication that further fixes and improvements could arrive in the future. The unpolished state of Oblivion Remastered at launch and in the subsequent year has been a point of contention, with some players finding that essential quests can be hindered by bugs, such as missing quest items. This has led to mixed reviews on Steam.
Bethesda also commented on their recent public communication efforts, telling MrMattyPlays that a detailed update post was "emblematic of a shift in our approach to communications that Bethesda game studios has been contemplating for some time now." This suggests the change is part of a longer-term strategy rather than a direct response to recent organizational shifts within Xbox.
