Oregon Coast Aquarium Names New Octopus 'Juicebox' After Dungeon Crawler Carl Character

The popular LitRPG series Dungeon Crawler Carl has extended its reach beyond literature, with the Oregon Coast Aquarium officially naming a new giant Pacific Octopus "Juicebox." This marks the second time the aquarium has honored the series, following the naming of another octopus, "Donut," after the character Princess Donut.

The aquarists at the Oregon Coast Aquarium selected the name Juicebox due to the octopus's remarkable ability to alter its appearance, a trait shared by the character in the books who is a changeling capable of shifting into various forms. In the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, Juicebox notably transforms into Ursula from The Little Mermaid, making the comparison to an octopus a fitting one for fans of the series.

Juicebox the Octopus is currently on display at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport and is expected to remain for approximately one year before its release back into the wild. This event coincides with a period of significant growth for the Dungeon Crawler Carl franchise, which is set to release its eighth book this year. Additionally, the series is expanding into other media with the confirmation of a TV adaptation on Peacock, helmed by Seth McFarlane, and the upcoming launch of tabletop games and a toy line.

The naming initiative is seen as a creative marketing effort to drive visitor engagement at the aquarium. The news also follows the recent release of an octopus named Anakin from the facility, adding another layer of pop culture connection to the aquarium's inhabitants.
