Original Destiny May Be Coming to PC, Bungie Community Update Suggests

Bungie has provided new details regarding its commitment to restoring vaulted content in Destiny 2, a move that strongly suggests the original Destiny game could finally be released on PC. The studio outlined its roadmap in a recent community update, confirming that the "Great Unvaultening" process is now in its pre-production phase, expected to last until early 2027, with full production potentially taking another year.

Future Plans for Destiny

Bungie's head of product, Josh Deane, elaborated on the studio's long-term vision, stating that the company is "marching forward with a phased plan for Destiny’s future that celebrates our legacy and propels us into a new, far green country." Key anchors for players to anticipate include a "Celebration" event for Destiny 2, offering new content, and a "Legacy" initiative focused on serving the "whole experience" of Destiny's decade-long journey to players on their preferred platforms. The specifics of the "Legacy" plan were not fully detailed but are expected to be revealed early next year.

The prospect of the original Destiny arriving on PC is particularly significant. While Destiny 2 has been a major title on PC, the first game, released over a decade ago, has remained a console exclusive. Bungie's statement that the "whole experience needs to be served to you all where you play today" indicates a potential shift in this long-standing exclusivity. This move could re-engage lapsed players by offering them the chance to experience the series' origins.

Deane cautioned that these are ambitious undertakings and that the process will be lengthy and may involve difficult decisions. He also managed expectations for immediate announcements, stating that players should not anticipate Destiny-related news at this year's The Game Awards, emphasizing a measured approach to future reveals.
