Over the Hill Offroading Sim Proves Irresistibly Addictive

The offroading simulation game Over the Hill, which launched on Steam this week, has swiftly captured the attention of players, even prompting a reviewer to commit to achieving full completion, a rare occurrence for them. The game offers a co-op or single-player experience set in a beautiful open world.

My brief excursion into Over the Hill has already revealed a compelling set of features. These include a dynamic weather system and a day/night cycle, a variety of well-designed vehicles, and challenging driving physics. The world is populated with secrets to discover, cosmetics to collect, and vehicle upgrades to unlock. A particular draw for me has been the opportunity to photograph wildlife. While navigating a rough trail in a small Jeep and using a winch to overcome obstacles, the sound of a raven alerted me to its presence. Switching to camera mode and capturing an image of the bird sparked a commitment to find and document every animal in the game.

Shortly after spotting the raven, I noticed movement in the grass near my Jeep. Following the elusive creature with my camera, it eventually emerged into view: a coyote. Photographing this animal solidified my resolve to find and document all the wildlife present in Over the Hill. Beyond the animal photography, I've also become determined to uncover every point of interest, unlock all vehicles and cosmetic items, acquire every available upgrade, and locate all hidden meteorites. These meteorites require a special in-game tool to locate and a careful offroad approach to retrieve using the vehicle's winch.

Adding to its appeal, Over the Hill is verified for play on the Steam Deck. The game is currently available on Steam with a 20% discount, an offer that runs until October 28.
