Overwatch 2 is set to welcome a new hero named Doctrine, a cyborg vampire who commands mechanical bats. His introduction was showcased in a story trailer that also established a connection to the existing character Doomfist.
Doctrine is currently available for testing in a hero trial that will continue through the weekend. While an official release date has not yet been announced, his addition maintains the game's recent pace of introducing new characters, following D. Mon's release last month.
In addition to the new hero, Blizzard announced upcoming reworks for both Sombra and Roadhog. Details were sparse, but Sombra is slated to transition into a support role, and Roadhog's rework aims to address player frustrations with his current gameplay. These changes mark further adjustments for characters who have undergone numerous tweaks since their introduction.
The game's ongoing year-long story event will also feature a new map, Grímsvötn. The next Overwatch Spotlight, which often teases future content, is scheduled for February 2027. A previous Spotlight event led to the simultaneous reveal and release of five new heroes, suggesting the possibility of significant future content drops.
