Blizzard Entertainment unveiled Doctrine, a new support hero for Overwatch 2, at BlizzCon 2026. Pitched as a vampire-inspired character with a high mechanical floor, Doctrine introduces a new "Infuse" mechanic that allows players to strategically enhance his weapon and abilities during critical moments.

Doctrine's primary weapon, the Eternal Scepter, functions as a mid-range projectile that can both heal allies and damage enemies. When infused, it fires a larger, piercing blast. His ultimate ability, Deliverance, deploys a swarm of drones that reduce enemy maximum health while granting allies overhealth. Doctrine's standard abilities include Infuse, which primes his next ability for an enhanced effect, and Shrouded Momentum, a horizontal dash that provides damage reduction, becoming free flight when infused. He also has Invigorating Drones, which heal allies and increase their attack speed, with an infused version that also affects Doctrine himself.

The hero's kit is further customized through a selection of perks. At level 2, players can choose between Saving Grace, which adds 40 health to Invigorating Drones' healing, or Sanguine Siphon, which heals Doctrine for 50% of damage dealt by his infused Eternal Scepter. At level 3, the choices present a trade-off: Transfusion reduces the Infuse cooldown based on damage and healing dealt, while Cost of Life sacrifices 25 maximum health in exchange for a 20% increase to the Eternal Scepter's healing output.

Doctrine's subrole is listed as Survivor, and his movement abilities start with a passive component. The developer noted that while Doctrine has some inherent complexity, his kit offers immediate fun, appealing to offensive-minded healers, players who find themselves on support, and those with a penchant for gothic aesthetics.

Doctrine is available for a limited-time trial this weekend and is slated to officially join the Overwatch 2 roster in season 5, launching in October.
