Overwatch 2's new damage hero, Shion, arrives in Season 3 with her signature motorcycle and dual pistols. Initially, Blizzard considered a more complex combo system for the hero, drawing inspiration from games like Devil May Cry. Hero producer Kenny Hudson revealed that Shion was originally designed with a "style meter UI" that would track players' ability to link together combos, similar to stylish action games. This meter would progress from a low rank like D or E up to S based on successful ability chains.
Further iterating on this concept, Shion's abilities were at one point designed to grant her significantly increased movement speed, potentially doubling the run speed of other heroes in the game. However, the development team ultimately decided to scale back these ambitions to ensure Shion's mechanics were more approachable for the player base. The developers felt that incorporating her motorcycle would provide a sufficient unique challenge without the added complexity of a dedicated style meter or extreme speed boosts.
Season 3 of Overwatch 2 also introduces the new Hybrid Map, Neon Junction, alongside the Anima Strike Meta Event and a new battle pass featuring cosmetic items with enhanced visual effects. The game, which underwent a significant relaunch in early 2026, has seen improvements and continues to expand its roster and content offerings.
