Overwatch has introduced a new limited-time mode that embraces chaos by allowing content creators to significantly alter hero abilities, reminiscent of the game's yearly April Fools' Day events. This "Community Crafted" mode, designed by creators Guxue, Apply, Ocie, and mL7support, amplifies hero kits to absurd and often impractical levels, with most changes not slated for the main game.
Radical Reworks for Familiar Faces
Several heroes have received dramatic overhauls. Soldier: 76 can now move his Biotic Field while his ultimate, Tactical Visor, targets all visible enemies simultaneously. Ramattra's ultimate has become a life-draining field that heals him for damage dealt, while Ana gains a jetpack and can double her critical headshot healing. Perhaps one of the most striking changes turns Brigitte into a mobile turret, as "Jetpack Cat" can now carry Symmetra and Torbjörn turrets on her back.
The extensive patch notes reveal a wide array of transformative changes across all hero classes. Tanks like D.Va have seen their kits altered to reward aggressive play, with Defense Matrix now converting absorbed damage into Self-Destruct damage and her pilot form becoming more lethal. Doomfist's Power Block can now empower any ability, and his Rising Uppercut has been re-added, now stunning enemies when empowered. Roadhog can now hook teammates, pulling himself to them, and his Take a Breather emits a damaging poison gas.
Damage and Support Dissent
Damage heroes also experience significant shifts. Soldier: 76's Tactical Visor now targets all enemies at once, and his Biotic Field follows him, pushing enemies away. Ashe's Dynamite can now stick to surfaces with a longer fuse timer, and B.O.B. explodes if killed. Bastion's 'Configuration: Artillery' has been reworked into 'Configuration: Tank,' featuring fast-moving shells. Cassidy's 'Deadeye' ultimate now pierces barriers, and his Combat Roll grants invincibility.
Echo's Duplicate ability provides stat buffs based on the copied hero's role, offering increased damage for copied supports, more health for copied damage heroes, and faster movement for copied tanks. Genji's 'Dragonblade' can now be canceled, releasing a projectile and refunding cooldowns, while his 'Deflect' damage increases with distance and grants a damage boost on final blows. Hanzo's 'Storm Bow' damage is reduced but recovery time is faster, and 'Dragonstrike' costs less ultimate charge.
Support heroes have not been left untouched. Ana can critically heal allies with her Biotic Rifle, and Baptiste's 'Immortality Field' has been moved to his ultimate slot, offering increased health and allies receive more healing within it. Brigitte's 'Shield Bash' now allows her to dash into the air, and her ultimate, 'Rally,' sees her vanishing and redeploying.
The "Community Crafted" mode offers a glimpse into how Overwatch's heroes could function with vastly different, and often humorous, mechanics, prioritizing chaotic fun over competitive balance.
