Owlcat Games co-founder Alexander Mishulin has stated that developing a potential Baldur's Gate 4 would be a "great challenge" and an "honour" for the studio. These comments come as Owlcat, known for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, reportedly expands its staff to approximately 600 employees to manage two ongoing projects: The Expanse: Osiris Reborn and Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy.

Mishulin conveyed his gratitude to players who consider Owlcat capable of taking on the Baldur's Gate series. He affirmed the studio's dedication to creating CRPGs, stating, "We will continue to make CRPGs because we love them." However, he also emphasized the desire to avoid stagnation and to explore "different approaches for our RPG games, trying to find the best possible fit for the idea of the game."

Despite the expressed interest, Owlcat's current development slate, with at least two major titles in progress, suggests they may not have the immediate capacity for a project as significant as Baldur's Gate 4. Archetype Entertainment's former studio head, James Ohlen, cited the daunting nature of following up on Larian Studios' success as a reason his studio declined an offer to develop the game. Unless Owlcat significantly scales back its current commitments, a Baldur's Gate 4 from the studio appears unlikely in the near future, though Mishulin did not rule out future consideration if circumstances change and Hasbro, the rights holder, continues to adjust its in-house development strategy.
