Palworld's development studio, Pocketpair, has reportedly rejected a significant number of collaboration proposals, according to John 'Bucky' Buckley, the head of publishing and communications. He stated that the team is selective about partnerships, prioritizing those that align with the game's "fun-first approach" and make logical sense within its existing framework.
Buckley emphasized that many potential collaborations simply do not fit the game's identity. "If it really doesn’t make sense then obviously we would never go ahead with it," he explained. "You guys simply do not realize the sheer number of collabs we've rejected or scrapped for that reason."
Some collaborations that have been implemented, such as the one with Terraria, have been well-received by players. The integration of Terraria's creatures and items, like the Meowmere sword, was noted for fitting seamlessly into Palworld's world. "I think the Terraria collab in Palworld was pretty great," Buckley remarked, acknowledging that while some players might prefer a stricter adherence to lore, the studio has always been transparent about its fun-first design philosophy.
Even collaborations with more action-oriented IPs, like UltraKill, have been considered successful. The presence of weapons in Palworld, such as the makeshift shotgun or laser rifle, made the inclusion of armaments like the Marksman Revolver feel natural to the game's established arsenal. These selective partnerships suggest a deliberate strategy by Pocketpair to maintain the integrity of their game's artistic vision while still engaging with external IPs.
