Paradox Interactive, the publisher known for its extensive catalog of grand strategy titles and numerous downloadable content expansions, has announced a significant account cleanup initiative. According to a forum thread and a post on X from earlier this week, inactive Paradox accounts are slated for deletion in March 2027. This means accounts that have not shown any activity in the preceding months will be permanently removed from the database.
The company clarified that an account is considered inactive if it has not been logged into since September 2025. A Paradox staff member, posting as Elmaze on the forums, explained that this "maintenance event" is intended to improve system performance, reduce database clutter, and ensure the health of systems for active players. Logging into the Paradox game launcher is sufficient to maintain account activity; a direct login to the Paradox website is not required.
This cleanup is expected to affect a minimal number of users. Players who actively engage with Paradox titles are unlikely to be impacted. Critically, local save files and ownership of games are not managed through the Paradox account system and will remain unaffected regardless of account status. The primary function of Paradox accounts is for multiplayer engagement. Users who do not wish to retain their old account information or forum badges can create a new account.
In a rare circumstance, an account deletion could lead to the loss of access to a game if that Paradox account is linked to an unclaimed game code and the user has misplaced the corresponding email or the code itself. However, Elmaze addressed this fringe scenario, stating that such issues can be resolved through Paradox's standard customer support channels.
Ultimately, the necessity to log in before March 2027 applies only to a very specific set of circumstances. For those users, there are ample months to perform a single login. The announcement offers a potential opportunity for players to revisit Paradox titles, perhaps starting a new save in games like Crusader Kings, especially with upcoming features such as playable popes on the horizon.
