Paramount Taps Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay for New Live-Action Transformers Film

Paramount Pictures is reportedly developing a new live-action Transformers movie, with Steven Spielberg set to oversee its creative direction and Michael Bay in talks to return as director. This move signals a significant effort to revitalize the film franchise.

Spielberg will serve as an executive producer, focusing on the creative aspects of the next installment. Michael Bay, who helmed the first five live-action Transformers films, is in early discussions to direct. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a long-time producer for the series, is also expected to return. Jason Fuchs, known for his work on "Wonder Woman" and "Argylle," has been attached as the screenwriter. Bay reportedly responded positively to Fuchs' script, which could entice him back to the franchise after a decade-long absence.

Bay's initial five Transformers movies, released between 2007 and 2017, were a considerable box office success, collectively grossing over $4.4 billion worldwide. Following this run, Paramount released the prequel "Bumblebee," which achieved moderate success, and the subsequent "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," which underperformed. The animated film "Transformers One," released in 2024, received critical praise but also failed to meet box office expectations.

Previously planned projects, such as a crossover film with G.I. Joe hinted at in "Rise of the Beasts," have been canceled. Paramount is now proceeding with a standalone G.I. Joe movie directed by Danny McBride, set to star Bradley Cooper.
