PC Gamer is launching a reader-driven tournament to determine the scariest PC horror game ever made. Similar to previous community polls that identified top-tier FPS modes and RTS units, this initiative aims to crown a definitive horror champion.
To nominate a game, players are instructed to leave a comment on the article beginning with the title of the game they wish to nominate. It is advised to check if a game has already been suggested before submitting. Existing nominations can be supported by giving the comment a thumbs up. Each comment should contain only one nomination, and the games must be playable on PC. Titles that do not strictly fall within the horror genre but are recognized for their scary elements are also eligible.
PC Gamer plans to randomly seed a bracket of the top 16 nominated games. Voting for the tournament will commence the week of Halloween, with a final 1v1 showdown scheduled for Friday, October 30, and the ultimate winner announced on Halloween itself. The publication also noted that joke submissions will be disqualified unless deemed humorously appropriate by the editorial team.
