Peak has received its final major update, titled "The Final Ascent," which introduces two new biomes: Gloom, a foggy area with large trees and mysterious bells, and The Citadel, a castle-like structure featuring traps and hazards. The update also includes a secret new area, Ascent 8, accessible only after reaching a certain point in the game.

Players can also expect new luggage types, such as "clown luggage," which comes with unique items like a lollipop, cannon, and balloon bunch. These items will not appear in the standard climber luggage. Additionally, new gameplay items have been added, including a jetpack, a warp fungus that can be thrown, and a glider reminiscent of those found in games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The developers have also hinted at the presence of new statues scattered across the island, which may be connected to the Scoutmaster's lost troop, offering a lore element for dedicated players.

Landfall and Aggro Crab, the studios behind Peak, stated that this marks the end of major content updates because they always intended the game to be "finished" at launch, with additional content serving as a bonus. They explained that the game's success led to more development time than initially planned, but they do not want Peak to become a "forever game" that continuously receives new content solely to maintain player engagement. Both studios are small and wish to return to working on their own individual projects.

This decision reflects a broader industry trend where a game's longevity is often tied to continuous updates. The developers emphasize that players should feel free to move on to other games rather than feeling obligated to stay with Peak indefinitely, framing their approach as a deliberate choice to deliver a complete experience rather than an endlessly evolving live service.
