Charlie Brown's famously one-sided correspondence is finally getting a face. After 68 years, the character of Morag, Charlie Brown's elusive Scottish pen pal, is set to make her official debut in the upcoming Apple TV+ special, "Snoopy Unleashed," slated for a 2027 release. This marks the first time a pen pal from the long-running comic strip will appear in an animated adaptation.

The "pencil pal" concept was introduced in the Peanuts comic strip on August 25, 1958, with Charlie Brown confiding in his anonymous friend. Over the years, both Charlie Brown and his sister Sally engaged in pen pal correspondence, though they rarely received replies. Schulz eventually revealed Charlie Brown's pen pal to be Morag, a girl from Scotland who wrote with a phonetic accent, in a strip dated September 27, 1994. Charlie Brown's excitement was short-lived as he discovered he was just one of Morag's 30 pen pals.

An animated special titled "Will Ye No Come Back Again, Charlie Brown?" was planned but never produced. However, the storyline was later adapted into the 2021 graphic novel "Scotland Bound, Charlie Brown" by Jason Cooper and Robert Pope, where Charlie Brown eventually meets a Scottish girl named Nell. This new graphic novel offered a rare win for Charlie Brown in his quest for connection.

Apple TV+ has been expanding the Peanuts universe with new animated specials since 2021. "Snoopy Unleashed" will feature Mia, a wheelchair-using Londoner of South Asian descent, as Charlie Brown's pen pal. Her arrival prompts Snoopy to run away to the city, leading Charlie Brown, Mia, and the gang on a chase. This introduction of Mia signifies a significant evolution, as she will be the first of Charlie Brown's pen pals to be officially shown in any Peanuts media, continuing a trend of expanding on Schulz's original work seen in specials like "Welcome Home, Franklin."
