Footage that appears to be from an unannounced remake of Persona 1 has surfaced online. The video, less than two minutes in length, showcases what is being described as a modernized version of the original game.
The footage was first posted on Reddit before spreading to other social media platforms. While Atlus has previously acknowledged the possibility of remakes for its earlier titles, no official development has been confirmed, making this leak a potential first look at such a project.
Speculation suggests the game is titled Persona: Be Your True Mind. Though the authenticity of such leaks can be uncertain, many fans believe the provided video is genuine due to its length and detail, which surpasses typical fake leaks. Specific elements drawing attention include character animations, particularly Eriko's summoning animation, which some believe is similar to Persona 4 Revival's Yukiko. The appearance of Persona 2 protagonist Tatsuya, potentially as an unfinished character model, has also been noted.
However, definitive conclusions cannot be drawn without official confirmation from Sega or Atlus. Some of the perceived oddities, such as placeholder assets and familiar animations, could support the argument that the footage is indeed real and represents a game still in development. Conversely, these details might also indicate an elaborate fake.
If the footage is authentic, it aligns with Atlus' recent trend of revisiting its flagship series, following the release of Persona 3 Reload in 2024 and the upcoming Persona 4 Revival. In August, Atlus P-Studio producer Kazuhisa Wada indicated that remakes for Persona 1 and 2 are something the company feels it "has to do," though he stopped short of confirming development.
Atlus has a history of leaks, with earlier footage of the Persona 3 remake surfacing in 2023 and images from the upcoming Persona 6 appearing online in June. A large Steam data leak in September also seemingly revealed trophy information for Persona 6.
IGN has reached out to Sega for comment regarding the leaked footage.
