Producer Kazuhisa Wada has confirmed that Persona 4 Revival will not feature a romance option for the character Yosuke, despite the development team having considered the possibility. Wada explained that adding a romance route for Yosuke would necessitate similar options for all other male characters, a task deemed too labor-intensive given the team's time and schedule constraints.
"I was aware that some people were talking online about, like, 'Oh, Yosuke,' and they were kind of hoping for that," Wada told GamesRadar. "But we were thinking, if we did Yosuke, we kind of would have to do all the other male characters as well. And if we did that, that is a lot of work. So we were thinking about our time and schedule. I don't know if we could actually handle this, so we decided to let Yosuke float on by."
Hints of a potential Yosuke romance option were previously suggested by cut voice lines from the original Persona 4 release. However, the character's original portrayal was noted for its frequent homophobic remarks, a trait that the upcoming Revival is expected to address. Wada acknowledged that Yosuke was "a little bit insensitive in terms of how he treats outsiders sometimes," and that adjustments would be made to better align him with contemporary societal norms. The exact nature of these changes, particularly concerning his past behavior and potential development, remains a subject of player discussion, with hopes that any alterations will feel natural within the narrative.
