The popular Atlus RPG series Persona may be heading to Netflix as a live-action adaptation. According to a report from Variety, 21 Laps, the production company behind Netflix's Stranger Things, is set to be substantially involved in the project. Story Kitchen, a company with a track record in game-to-film adaptations such as Sonic The Hedgehog and upcoming projects like Tomb Raider and It Takes Two, is also attached.
Christopher Monfette, who has worked on series like VisionQuest and Star Trek: Picard, is reportedly attached as the writer and showrunner. Toru Nakahara, a Sega executive producer credited on the Sonic film trilogy, is listed among the executive producers. This move into live-action comes as Persona 5, including its enhanced version Persona 5 Royal, has achieved significant commercial success, selling over 10.46 million copies as of August 2025. The game has seen releases across three console generations since its 2016 debut and has spawned numerous spin-offs, leading to remakes of Persona 3 and Persona 4.
While this would be the first live-action adaptation, the Persona franchise has a history of screen adaptations. Persona 5 received an anime series that ran from 2018 to 2019, following earlier anime adaptations of Persona 4 in 2011 and a Persona 3 anime miniseries. The broader Shin Megami Tensei series, from which Persona originates, also has roots in a novel trilogy, indicating a history of cross-media presence.
The report also notes the upcoming reveal of Persona 6 at the Xbox Games Showcase, though details such as gameplay footage or a release window remain unconfirmed. Atlus has indicated that the game is intended for release at some point in the future.
