Phantom Blade Zero is poised to be a significant success, with market analysis suggesting the action game has surpassed one million pre-launch copies sold. Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics, estimated in a social media post that the game had sold 850,000 pre-launch copies across Western platforms Steam and PlayStation 5. This figure, when combined with sales on China's WeGame platform, pushes the total past the million mark.
Of the Western pre-launch sales, Elliott projected that three-quarters were on Steam. Approximately two-thirds of all pre-launch sales originate from China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong. Phantom Blade Zero, developed by Chinese studio S-Game, features martial arts star Donnie Yen and is described as a wuxia action game.
These pre-launch sales are estimated to have generated $43 million in revenue, placing Phantom Blade Zero among the top 40 highest-grossing games of 2026 prior to its official release, despite its availability only on PC and PS5. While Elliott acknowledged that the game is unlikely to reach the astronomical sales figures of 2024's Black Myth Wukong, which sold over 10 million copies in its first three days and more than 20 million to date, he still anticipates substantial sales in a competitive market.
IGN's review of Phantom Blade Zero awarded it a 9/10, praising it as "an unbelievably smooth action game filled with memorable boss fights, compelling combat, and limitless swagger."
The game is set to be one of the major releases of October 2026, joining titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and Final Fantasy Resonance. This follows a strong year for game releases, with titles like the Ocarina of Time remake and Grand Theft Auto 6 also anticipated.
