S-Game's upcoming action RPG, Phantom Blade Zero, is set to launch on October 29 for PlayStation 5, the Epic Games Store, and Steam. The game, an addition to the Rainblood/Phantom Blade series, was revealed in August during a PlayStation State of Play presentation. S-Game describes its title as a fusion of wuxia, fantasy, and folk horror elements, a style they've termed "kungfupunk."
An 11-minute trailer offered a glimpse into the game's opening moments, combat, and boss encounters. The combat system appears to draw heavily from the Dark Souls series, emphasizing parrying mechanics, and features flashy, John Wick-style enemy finishers. According to the Steam page, the game's combat is rooted in authentic Chinese martial arts, developed in collaboration with choreographers known for their work on classic wuxia films.
In Phantom Blade Zero, players assume the role of Soul, an elite assassin accused of murdering his master. The game incorporates a time-sensitive mechanic, mirroring elements from previous Phantom Blade titles, where Soul has only 66 days to live after sustaining a near-fatal wound.
Pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero are now open. The Standard Edition is priced at $59.99, with the Digital Deluxe Edition available for $69.99. Pre-ordering on the Epic Games Store includes a special Soul cosmetic set for Fortnite. All pre-orders are digital, and no physical edition has been announced.
