Phantom Blade Zero, the debut title from studio S-Game, has achieved a remarkable sales milestone, selling over 4 million copies within its first 72 hours on sale. This success has positioned it as Steam's biggest launch of the year to date. The developer announced the figures via its official X account, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming player support.
The game is available on Steam and PlayStation 5, with the sales total also encompassing units sold on the China-exclusive Tencent WeGame PC launcher. This initial sales surge follows an earlier projection from Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott, who anticipated Phantom Blade Zero would sell over 1 million copies even before its official release.
Phantom Blade Zero's popularity is further underscored by its performance on Steam, where it attracted a peak concurrent player count of 833,921. This figure surpasses other major releases of the year, including Forza Horizon 6 and titles like Onimusha: Way of the Sword and The Blood of Dawnwalker. Despite its strong debut, the game has not yet matched the launch performance of Black Myth: Wukong, another Chinese-developed title that saw a peak of over 2.4 million concurrent players.
In a review, Eurogamer noted the game's strengths in animation and environmental design, as well as its engaging combat flow. However, the review also pointed out criticisms regarding an underwhelming narrative and inconsistencies in boss battles, suggesting that the game's power diminishes during these encounters.
