Sony has announced an upcoming State of Play broadcast dedicated to the highly anticipated action RPG, Phantom Blade Zero. The event is scheduled to take place on August 17 at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET, and will offer an in-depth look at the game ahead of its October 29 release.
A new preorder trailer accompanying the announcement revealed the involvement of action film legend Donnie Yen. Yen has provided the likeness and motion capture for the character Mó Yuan, who is the father of the game's protagonist. Furthermore, developer S-Game confirmed that Yen has been serving as a creative consultant on Phantom Blade Zero since 2023. Yen is recognized for his contributions to martial arts cinema through films such as Kill Zone, Iron Monkey, Blade 2, and the Ip Man series.
The State of Play presentation will introduce new characters from Phantom Blade Zero and provide a closer look at the buildcrafting system, which players can use to customize their combat approach. The game is inspired by Chinese Wuxia action films, promising fast-paced combat and a dark fantasy aesthetic.
Phantom Blade Zero was originally slated for a September 9 launch but was subsequently delayed to October. This revised release date likely positions the game more favorably amidst a crowded slate of major game releases in the latter half of the year.
