Chinese action game Phantom Blade Zero is on track to be a breakout hit, having already sold 500,000 copies on Steam through pre-orders ahead of its official launch next week. This pre-release success translates to an estimated $24 million in revenue, according to data analysis from Alinea Analytics.
Analysis head Rhys Elliott noted that Phantom Blade Zero's Steam performance already surpasses that of anticipated titles like Gears of War: E-Day and Control Resonant. The game's primary market at this stage is China, though pre-launch signals also suggest strong interest on the PlayStation 5. Elliott indicated that Phantom Blade Zero has the potential to become one of the year's most significant single-player releases.
The game has also garnered 2.5 million wishlists on Steam. Data indicates a significant overlap in player interest with other popular titles, with 41 percent of wishlisters having also played Black Myth Wukong, 38 percent Elden Ring, and 28 percent Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
These figures emerge as China's gaming industry experiences a notable boom, with an increasing number of titles from Chinese developers achieving global critical and commercial success. Phantom Blade Zero is set to launch for PC and PlayStation 5 on October 28.
