Phasmophobia, the popular cooperative ghost-hunting game, is teeming with hidden easter eggs and secrets that go beyond its terrifying supernatural encounters. These discoveries range from direct references to classic horror films and internet urban legends to charming nods to the game's developers and their pets. While many offer only amusement, two specific map easter eggs present challenging puzzles that reward players with unique in-game items.

Maple Lodge Campsite, in particular, serves as a hub for several horror movie tributes. Near the lodge, a hockey mask appears in the water, a clear homage to Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th franchise, referencing his drowning. The same map features a chilling appearance of Slender Man, the iconic internet urban legend, lurking in the surrounding woods. Another notable reference is to The Ring, where interacting with a television in the lodge triggers a phone to ring, echoing the film's cursed videotape premise. A darker secret on this map is a corpse wrapped in a sheet, discoverable under the cabin with a powerful flashlight. The unsettling stick figure symbol from The Blair Witch Project can also be found behind BBQs in Campsite A.

Other maps conceal their own unique secrets. A potato with a face, referencing streamer PsychoHypnotic, can be found in Tanglewood's kitchen cupboards or Sunny Meadows' Bake House ovens. Ridgeview Court's basement displays photographs of the New Forest, taken by Kinetic Games' art lead. The Willow Street map is adorned with cat-themed items, including sketches and photographs of the development team's pets, and is named after the art director's late cat. In the main Phasmophobia lobby, the phrase “JOJO WAS HERE” is etched into a table near the Event Board, a tribute to Twitch streamer JOJOsaysbreee. On the Bleasdale Farmhouse map, players might hear a rare werewolf howl when using a Parabolic Microphone, and a cookbook titled ‘O’Bake Off’ appears in the kitchen, referencing both the Obake ghost and a popular baking show. The same map's attic hides terrariums containing spider names, with one spider, Lilith, having seemingly escaped its enclosure to wander the attic. A basketball hoop in the lobby offers another secret: scoring 666 baskets triggers a lightning strike.

Camp Woodwind also holds specific secrets. The bathroom building features names etched into its exterior, a nod to the game's beta testers. Inside the bathroom, a toilet tank bears a white heart, reminiscent of a similar marker from the first Saw film. The urban legend of Bloody Mary can be invoked by saying her name three times using voice chat, causing the ghost to become agitated. At Point Hope, nautical flags in a child's bedroom spell out “GET OUT.” Nell's Diner includes a "Demon Dog" film poster, referencing a scrapped Phasmophobia feature where dead players were chased by such a creature. The diner also features license plates that list various ghost names.

Solving the Nell's Diner "Ghost in the Machine" Easter Egg

Nell's Diner hosts a multi-step easter egg that culminates in unlocking a special ID Card and Badge. Players must first locate a safe behind the manager's desk in the Manager's Office. Using a UV Light on a Post-it note reveals directional arrows. The first number of the safe code is found by looking at a license plate in the direction indicated by an arrow pointing downwards. The second number is deciphered from a metal shape resembling a '1' near the diner's road sign, guided by another arrow. The final number is located near the bins, indicated by an arrow pointing to a graffiti '5'. After entering the code and retrieving a credit card from the safe, players must use an ATM to get a dollar, purchase an item from the "Mr. Sprinkles" machine, and then use the resulting coin on an arcade machine in the staff room. This action triggers a spectral skeleton to emerge, completing the easter egg.

The Point Hope "Ferryman of the Drowned" Easter Egg

The Point Hope map offers another rewarding puzzle. On the fourth floor, players will find seashell pictures next to the stairs. By dropping pool table balls into the table's holes in the order matching the seashell colors (green, blue, then orange), a key is revealed. This key unlocks a cabinet on the floor above, containing a small cog. A larger cog must be found on the floor below, near a rocking horse. Once both cogs are placed and activated in the cabinet, players must go outside and interact with a bell near the lighthouse entrance three times. Ascending to the lighthouse balcony, players will see "UV" spelled out in rocks on a beach below. Shining a UV light on the lighthouse lamp turns it purple. Returning to the balcony, players will hear underwater sounds and, with a UV light, can see the silhouettes of drowned spirits, signifying the completion of the easter egg and earning the Ferryman of the Drowned ID Card and badge.
