Kinetic Games has launched Phasmophobia's second Quality of Life update, now available for PC and PlayStation players, with an Xbox release planned for later.
This update introduces a selection of new Restricted maps for locations such as Prison, Brownstone High School, and Point Hope. These condensed versions of existing maps are designed to expedite investigations and increase the variety of gameplay sessions. Evidence collection has also been refined, allowing players to determine if a piece of evidence has already been logged directly from their Photo Camera, Video Camera, or Sound Recorder through visual cues like faded overlays and yellow LEDs, eliminating the need to manually consult the in-game journal.
Furthermore, any evidence or ghost types selected by teammates will now be visible to the entire team, reducing the likelihood of last-minute redundant checks before a ghost hunt begins. VR players can expect a more responsive character rig that more accurately mirrors real-world body movements, alongside numerous bug fixes addressed from community reports.
The update also brings significant changes to the player death experience. Upon dying, characters' skin will appear greyer and their eyes mistier, and their voice chat will be immediately cut off at the moment of death. These changes follow a period of development adjustments for Phasmophobia, including the studio's acknowledgment that its 1.0 launch has been postponed to 2027, with Kinetic Games prioritizing quality enhancements after a challenging reception to its Player Character Update. The studio has since released multiple patches and hotfixes, incorporating player feedback to improve the overall experience and address community frustrations.
