Rockstar Games and Netflix have offered an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI, revealing new gameplay elements, life simulation features, and its visual fidelity. The latest preview also provided a significant update on the game's soundtrack, with over a dozen new tracks confirmed.
Among the confirmed songs is Phil Collins' "Against All Odds," a 1984 single. This marks a return for Collins to Vice City, as a virtual rendition of the musician previously performed "In the Air Tonight" in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, released 20 years ago. The inclusion of "Against All Odds" has led to speculation about its implications for the game's protagonists, Jason and Lucia.
The soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto VI is shaping up to be a diverse mix of yacht rock, stadium anthems, and contemporary R&B. Other artists confirmed to feature include Captain & Tennille with "But I Think It’s a Dream," Cliff Richard's "Devil Woman," Sexyy Red's "Pound Town," Def Leppard's "Love Bites," Depeche Mode's "People Are People," and Birdman and Lil Wayne's "Pop Bottles." Kodak Black's "Skrilla" is also set to appear. More unexpected additions to the lineup include indie band !!! with "Off The Grid" and Prefab Sprout's "Cars and Girls."
Jesse Hawken, a podcaster and Prefab Sprout enthusiast, commented on the inclusion of the new wave band's music, suggesting that Prefab Sprout could serve as the perfect soundtrack for navigating Vice City. He noted that the band's music is fitting for the game's environment, hoping for a dedicated radio station for the group.
Since the original Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the series has significantly expanded its use of licensed music and introduced in-game radio stations featuring celebrity DJs. The focus on Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to introduce new music playlists and potentially gain new fans for the eclectic mix of artists, similar to how previous trailers boosted the popularity of songs by Tom Petty and The Pointer Sisters.
