Arc System Works has unveiled Phoenix Cyclops as the inaugural downloadable content character for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The announcement was made at San Diego Comic Con, showcasing the character's inclusion in the game's anticipated post-launch support.
Phoenix Cyclops represents an iteration of the X-Men's Cyclops infused with the power of the Phoenix Force, a cosmic entity. This design draws inspiration from his appearance as a member of the Phoenix Five in the Avengers vs. X-Men comic series. The character is voiced in English by Ray Chase, who also lent his voice to Cyclops in Marvel Rivals and X-Men '97.
"In addition to powerful Optic Blasts and exceptional hand-to-hand combat abilities that define the character, this Cyclops also possesses the Phoenix Force, so expect Scott Summers to bring the heat!" stated Takeshi Yamanaka, producer of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, in a PlayStation blog post. Yamanaka added that further details on how these abilities will be integrated into his gameplay mechanics will be shared in future updates.
Phoenix Cyclops is the first of four characters planned for the Year One DLC pack. This pack will also feature a new stage and a collection of result screen character poses. The Year One DLC is bundled with the game's ultimate edition, which further includes alternate chromatic colored skins for all characters, unique skins for Spider-Man, Storm, Iron Man, Captain America, and Doctor Doom, as well as additional cosmetics for use in the game's explorable lobby.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 6. Prior to its release, a free open beta will be available this weekend for players eager to try the game.
