Several prominent online games, including Final Fantasy 14, Umamusume: Pretty Derby, and Path of Titans, have experienced disruptions due to the discovery of a significant PHP vulnerability. This flaw posed a risk of substantial security breaches, prompting online services to temporarily go offline for essential updates and protections.
Final Fantasy 14 implemented security enhancements on its patch servers, which initially led to a temporary disabling of new logins. While logins have since been restored, the server back-up feature for user save data remains offline as of this report. An official post on the Final Fantasy 14 Lodestone website detailed these necessary measures.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby was taken offline entirely. Its developer confirmed that while the game's server infrastructure utilizes PHP, no exploitation of the vulnerability had occurred. Both Japanese and global servers for the horse racing gacha game are now back online, and players are receiving compensatory in-game currency for the downtime.
Path of Titans, a dinosaur-themed MMO currently in beta, remains unavailable. Alderon Games, the developer, announced via its official X account that the MMO and its website would be offline for up to three days as a precautionary measure. The company assured players that no data had been compromised.
The situation highlights the critical nature of the PHP vulnerability, impacting numerous services globally beyond the gaming industry. The rapid response from developers underscores the severity of the potential security risks involved in protecting user data.
