The latest beta update, released on September 15, aims to bring the game's functionality in line with other Enhanced Edition titles from the developer, many of which have already received similar updates.
This recent beta build is itself an addition to a prior beta released in August. Among the key improvements is the proper implementation of Steam Cloud saves, allowing users to toggle the feature directly through the Steam client. GOG cloud saves have also been addressed and are now functional. Perhaps the most significant enhancement for modern hardware is the introduction of a UI scaling option within the game's settings. Previously, the UI was locked to the original 1024x768 resolution, but this new option allows it to adapt to higher resolutions and modern monitor sizes.
The update also includes fixes for mobile versions of the game and reportedly makes modding the dialog.tlk file, which contains the game's extensive text and dialogue, significantly easier. While the exact release date for the full patch remains unannounced, its progression from beta suggests it may be imminent. The continued support for such a seminal RPG, even decades after its initial launch, highlights a commitment to preserving and improving classic gaming experiences.
