PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba has indicated a strong desire within the studio to continue the Bayonetta series, expressing intentions to further develop the character and expand her world.
This statement comes amid a period of significant staff departures from the Osaka-based developer. Original game director Hideki Kamiya, who has since founded a new studio called Clover, as well as Resident Evil character designer Masaki Yamanaka, Metal Gear Rising director Kenji Saito, and Astral Chain director Takahisa Taura, are among the notable figures who have left PlatinumGames. Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto also departed to join Capcom.
Despite these departures, Inaba conveyed the studio's commitment to the gun-slinging witch character in a recent interview. The future of the series, however, is complicated by the fact that it is co-owned by Sega and Nintendo, who published the first and second games respectively. The sequel was a Nintendo Wii U exclusive and has since been ported to the Nintendo Switch, as was Bayonetta 3 in 2022.
PlatinumGames' most recent release was Ninja Gaiden 4, a collaboration with Team Ninja, which launched in October 2025. The studio's upcoming projects include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, an action-adventure game based on the comic book series. This title is a partnership with Paramount, following the cancellation of an earlier version by Black Forest Games. The recent $110 billion merger between Warner Bros and Paramount into Skydance could potentially impact this project, as Paramount's live-action adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin was previously put on hold.
