PlatinumGames president Atsushi Inaba has indicated a strong desire to expand the character and world of the Bayonetta series. Speaking during Tokyo Game Show, where a crossover featuring Bayonetta costumes for Stellar Blade was announced, Inaba shared his wish to see the franchise grow.
Kim Hyung-tae, director of Stellar Blade, lauded the Bayonetta series, calling it an "indispensable work in my life." He admitted to exercising restraint during the design of his own Bayonetta-inspired "Black Dress" costume to avoid overstepping. Kim also half-jokingly offered to design characters for a future Bayonetta installment.
When directly questioned about a potential next entry in the series, Inaba offered no specifics, simply advising fans to "wait and see."
This sentiment comes after a period of significant change for the franchise. Series creator Hideki Kamiya departed PlatinumGames in October 2023, stating he had envisioned Bayonetta as a nine-part saga that he might now "take to the grave." Furthermore, Bayonetta 3 director Yusuke Miyata has also since left the studio. The series also recently lost Atsuko Tanaka, the Japanese voice actress for Bayonetta, who passed away in August 2024 at the age of 61.
Despite these departures, Inaba's comments suggest a continued interest within PlatinumGames to explore possibilities for the iconic Umbra Witch.
