A free demo for Chronoscript: The Endless End, a Metroidvania-style action-adventure game that draws heavy inspiration from Hollow Knight: Silksong, is now available on Steam. The demo allows players to experience the initial stages of the game ahead of its full release, which is planned for fall 2026.
Chronoscript: The Endless End places players in the role of Frederick G. Muller, a meticulous editor summoned by a mysterious author to help complete a manuscript. This author is revealed to be Viola S. Chambers, a vampire who has spent a millennium working on her book, "The Endless End." Frederick finds himself trapped within the manuscript and must navigate its stories while attending to Viola's emotional needs to bring the book to a conclusion.
The game features a distinctive visual style, with characters and environments rendered in hand-drawn pen and ink. The character designs are by Mari Shimazaki, known for her work on the Bayonetta series and Okami. The musical score is provided by Yasunori Mitsuda, composer for titles such as Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and Xenoblade.
Developed by DeskWorks Inc. and published by Shueisha Games, Chronoscript: The Endless End combines 2D and 3D elements. The world within the manuscript is presented as hand-drawn 2D illustrations with frame-by-frame animation. However, the game incorporates 3D environments that show Viola working on her manuscript, creating a cohesive experience where the pages themselves act as navigable objects.
The gameplay emphasizes exploration and action, typical of the Metroidvania genre. The availability of a free demo offers players a direct opportunity to assess how guiding Frederick through Viola's narrative unfolds.
