Sony Interactive Entertainment has unveiled its new Prism Collection, a line of PlayStation 5 accessories featuring transparent designs for DualSense controllers and matching console covers. The collection offers three distinct color options: Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray, each featuring a glossy, translucent exterior that provides a glimpse of the internal hardware.
This new aesthetic revives the see-through design trend popular in the late 1990s, offering a retro-inspired makeover for Sony's current-generation gaming hardware. The Prism Collection DualSense controllers are priced at $84.99 in the U.S., with matching PS5 console covers available for $74.99. Players can coordinate their controllers and consoles with these matching colorways.
Pre-orders for the Prism Collection are set to open on November 10, starting at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET in the U.S. exclusively through PlayStation Direct, with additional availability at participating retailers. The official launch date for the collection is February 4, 2027, though regional availability and release dates may vary. Console covers will be sold directly by PlayStation in select countries, including the U.S., and will have limited quantities available through other retailers in some markets.
The Prism Collection arrives as Sony faces broader discussions about the future of its hardware, including the eventual release of the PlayStation 6. Reports suggest the next console generation could emerge in 2028 or 2029, with potential increases in memory costs possibly affecting its price point. Furthermore, Sony has indicated plans to cease production of physical PlayStation game discs in January 2028, leading to speculation about whether the PS6 will include a disc drive. While the possibility of an optional external drive remains, Sony has not yet confirmed these details. For the present, the Prism Collection provides PS5 owners with a cosmetic enhancement rather than a step into a new hardware generation.
