DC Comics' Poison Ivy is reportedly in the early stages of development for her own live-action television series at HBO. According to Deadline, a producer involved with HBO's critically acclaimed series 'The Penguin' is in discussions to take on a production role for the new show.
However, sources indicate that this Poison Ivy series will not be connected to Matt Reeves' established Batman universe. This means viewers should not expect appearances from Colin Farrell's Penguin or Robert Pattinson's Batman in any potential storylines involving Dr. Pamela Isley.
Lauren LeFranc, who served as showrunner and executive producer on 'The Penguin,' is said to be in talks for the Poison Ivy project. If the series moves forward, it would also be streamed on HBO, though the project is still in its nascent stages.
Currently, no writers have been attached to the series, and casting remains unannounced. The character of Poison Ivy has not yet been featured in James Gunn's DC Universe, nor has there been any official word on her inclusion in the upcoming Batman film. While Scarlett Johansson is confirmed for the cast of the next Batman movie, fueling fan speculation about her role, reports suggest she may be playing Gilda Dent. Some fan theories, however, have posited Johansson as a potential Poison Ivy, a casting that would mark her DCU debut following her departure from the MCU in 'Avengers: Endgame.'
Poison Ivy has had a notable presence in DC Studios' animated 'Harley Quinn' series, where her relationship with Harley Quinn is a central focus. It remains to be seen if this romantic relationship will be explored in the live-action adaptation, and who might be cast as Harley Quinn, particularly given the ongoing DCU reboot and the uncertainty surrounding Margot Robbie's potential future involvement.
In other DC-related news, the film 'Clayface' is set to release on October 23. IGN's review scored the movie a 7 out of 10, describing it as a "fun body horror romp that realizes its nasty potential in its final act after a slow-burn set-up."
