The Pokémon Center's websites in the UK and Germany have canceled customer orders following a data breach that impacted logistics provider CEVA Logistics. The breach, which occurred at the end of July, also affected Valve customers in Europe. Affected Pokémon Center customers received emails stating that their orders were canceled due to an "unforeseen fulfilment issue," a curious explanation for a security incident. The data compromised includes full names, delivery addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and order contents, leaving customers vulnerable to phishing scams.
Despite the data breach, the decision to cancel orders has drawn criticism. Customers report that the items they purchased are now out of stock, and some will miss important dates like birthdays. Attempts by customers to re-order or inquire about the safety of future orders have been met with unhelpful responses from Pokémon Center support, which stated it had no further information to share and closed support tickets.
This situation exacerbates existing frustrations with the Pokémon Center's online stores, which have struggled to meet demand, leading to long queues and rapid sell-outs of new products. The impending release of a 30th Anniversary set is expected to further strain the platform's capacity.
