The Pokémon Go Mega Ascension event is underway, serving as a precursor to the upcoming Go Fest 2026: Mega Finale. This event presents trainers with a significant choice: Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, or Mega Greninja. The decision made during the 'Go Fest 2026: Mega Finale Mega Choice' Timed Research quest will determine the Go Pass received for the Mega Finale and which of the three Mega Kalos starters will be obtainable.

The Mega Choice Quest

The Timed Research quest requires players to select one of the three Mega Evolutions. This choice is permanent and cannot be altered. Each selection unlocks a specific Go Pass, offering themed rewards. For instance, choosing Mega Delphox provides Fennekin encounters. The ultimate reward from completing the Go Pass, which must be progressed through by Sunday, September 6th, 11:59 PM local time, is the ability to obtain the chosen Mega Evolution. A short grace period will be available for reward collection after the deadline.

Path Rewards

Choosing the 'Mega Chesnaught' path requires completing a quest step involving Chespin. Rewards include Stardust, Chespin Candy, and Chespin Candy XL. Any Chesnaught obtained through this path will know the Grass-type Charged Attack Frenzy Plant. The free track of the associated Go Pass offers multiple Chespin encounters with a special background, Chespin Candy, and Mega Chesnaught Energy, culminating in a Chesnaught encounter. A Deluxe Track purchase adds an increased chance of shiny Chespin encounters, Chespin Candy XL, a higher chance of encountering shiny Pokémon during event hours, extra Mega Chesnaught Energy, and a Chesnaught T-shirt for the avatar.

Selecting 'Mega Delphox' similarly involves a Fennekin-themed quest. Rewards include Stardust, Fennekin Candy, and Fennekin Candy XL. Evolved or caught Delphox will gain the Fire-type Charged Attack Blast Burn. The free Go Pass track grants Fennekin encounters, Fennekin Candy, Mega Delphox Energy, and a Delphox encounter. The Deluxe Track enhances shiny Fennekin odds, provides Fennekin Candy XL, increases shiny Pokémon encounter rates, offers additional Mega Delphox Energy, and includes a Delphox T-shirt.

For the 'Mega Greninja' path, a Froakie-themed quest is required. Players receive Stardust, Froakie Candy, and Froakie Candy XL. Greninja evolved or caught will learn the Water-type Charged Attack Hydro Cannon. The free Go Pass track includes Froakie encounters, Froakie Candy, Mega Greninja Energy, and a Greninja encounter. The Deluxe Track offers improved shiny Froakie odds, Froakie Candy XL, a greater chance for shiny Pokémon, extra Mega Greninja Energy, and a Greninja T-shirt.

Analyzing the Choices

While player preference is a factor, Mega Delphox is presented as the strongest choice in terms of offensive power. Its potential moveset, including Mystical Fire, positions it as a top Fire-type attacker, surpassing Mega Blaziken. Even with Blast Burn, Mega Delphox ranks as the second-best Fire-type. Furthermore, its Psychic-type capabilities place it among the top 10 Psychic-types, a distinction not shared by Mega Chesnaught or Mega Greninja for their secondary typings. Mega Chesnaught ranks as the second-best Grass-type, behind Mega Sceptile, and Mega Greninja is the second-best Water-type, with Primal Kyogre holding the top spot. The Mega Ascension event runs until Friday, September 4th, at 11:59 PM local time, with increased Remote Raid Pass limits during this period.

The Mega Ascension event also features increased spawns of Pikachu, Bellsprout, Staryu, Dratini, Skarmory, Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, Inkay, and Falinks. Mega Raids will be prominent, with a possibility of seasonal raid bosses like Regice, Regirock, and Registeel appearing in five-star raids.
