The "Choose Your Path: Twilight Trails" research became available starting September 23rd at 10 a.m. local time and will expire on September 28th at 8 p.m. local time. Niantic is reportedly testing this feature, leading to some players receiving daily research tasks while others get longer, weekly research.
Players are presented with choices that offer specific in-game bonuses:
- <strong>Explore (PokéStops)</strong>: Grants 5x XP for spinning PokéStops.
- <strong>Catch (Stardust)</strong>: Provides 2x Stardust for catching Pokémon.
- <strong>Catch (Candy)</strong>: Offers 2x candy for catching Pokémon.
- <strong>Battle (Team Go Rocket)</strong>: Awards extra Mysterious Components from Team Go Rocket grunts.
The optimal choice depends on individual play style. Players focused on acquiring Shadow Pokémon may prefer the Battle path, while those aiming to maximize XP gains might select Explore. For players using the daily research option, they can choose the most suitable bonus each day based on their planned activities.
The rewards for completing the research also vary. The full event-long research paths and the daily options include different tasks and rewards.
For the 'Explore' path, tasks include hatching four eggs, walking 2 km, spinning ten PokéStops or gyms, and following a route. The rewards for this path are 5 Rare Candy, 5,000 XP, and 5,000 Stardust.
The 'Catch (Candy)' path requires catching 50 Pokémon, using 15 berries to assist in catches, making 10 great throws, and making 10 nice curveball throws. This path yields 5 Rare Candy, 5,000 XP, and 5,000 Stardust.
For 'Battle (Team Go Rocket)', players must use 10 supereffective charged attacks, defeat 5 Team Go Rocket grunts, defeat a Team Go Rocket Leader, and power up Pokémon 10 times. The rewards include 5 Rare Candy, 5,000 XP, and 5,000 Stardust.
Daily research options provide smaller, scaled-down rewards. The 'Daily Explore' path includes tasks like exploring 1 km and spinning PokéStops or gyms, rewarding 2 Rare Candy, 2,500 XP, and 2,500 Stardust. The 'Daily Catch (Stardust)' path involves making curveball throws and excellent throws, also yielding 2 Rare Candy, 2,500 XP, and 2,500 Stardust.
