Pokémon Go's "Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers" event, running from August 4 to August 10, introduces a variety of fire- and ice-type Pokémon. A notable addition is the debut of shiny Snom, which can be obtained through specific Go Pass ranks or by hatching 5 km eggs during the event.
The event includes a tiered Go Pass system with 30 standard ranks and 30 bonus ranks. Players can progress by participating in raids, hatching eggs, and catching Pokémon. Daily tasks, such as spinning 10 PokéStops or gyms and exploring 2 km, also contribute to ranking up. Reaching rank 30 or 60 of the Go Pass will reward players with a Snom encounter.
Event bonuses are unlocked at specific ranks. Reaching rank 10 grants double XP for spinning PokéStops, with a deluxe pass upgrade offering triple XP. At rank 20, hatch distance is halved, and the deluxe pass further reduces it to a quarter. The deluxe pass, available for $4.99, also includes items like Incubators.
A free Timed Research is available, offering a special encounter with a Pikachu wearing a marathon visor upon completion before the event concludes on August 10 at 8 p.m. local time. The research tasks primarily involve exploring distances: 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km.
Field Research tasks obtained by spinning PokéStops during the event may include encounters with Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, or Vanillite. Spinning a previously unvisited PokéStop can yield one Rare Candy.
Several Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild. These include Vulpix, Alolan Vulpix, Growlithe, Swinub, and Snorunt. Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, and Vanillite will have increased spawn rates on specific days throughout the event. Some of these Pokémon, marked with an asterisk, also have an increased chance of appearing in their shiny forms.
Pokémon hatched from 5 km eggs obtained during the "Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers" event have a chance to be Sneasel, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, Larvesta, Sizzlipede, or Snom.
