Pokémon Pokopia has secured the Game of the Year award at the Japan Game Awards 2026, adding a significant accolade to the franchise's 30th-anniversary celebrations. The game also received an Award for Excellence, and the Pokémon series as a whole was honored with the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Award.

The Japan Game Awards consider games released in Japan between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026. Pokémon Pokopia faced strong competition from titles such as Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata, as well as 2025 releases like Ghost of Yōtei, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Kirby Air Riders.

Pokémon Pokopia has achieved considerable commercial success since its March release, selling over 5 million copies. This makes it the second-best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch 2, surpassed only by Mario Kart World, which was bundled with the console at launch. The game's first expansion, themed around water, introduced the Bubbly Basin region and new Pokémon. A second expansion is slated for release later this year, promising additional Pokémon and accessories.
