Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced that Pokémon Pokopia has achieved over five million global sales across both physical and digital formats. This milestone comes just over four months after the game's launch.
With over 20 million Switch 2 units sold as of May 2026, these figures suggest that approximately one in four Nintendo Switch 2 owners has purchased Pokémon Pokopia. This positions the title as a significant release early in the console's lifecycle.
Competitive Performance
While not reaching the sales heights of the immensely popular Mario Kart World, which has sold 15.39 million units, Pokémon Pokopia has outpaced other major releases on the platform. For comparison, Pokémon Legends: Z-A has sold 3.99 million units on the Switch 2. This makes Pokopia a leading third-party title, and a strong performer even when set against first-party Pokémon games on the system.
Recent Updates and Future Outlook
The game's recent sales may have been boosted by the release of its first paid downloadable content, "Part 1: Bubbly Basin." This expansion introduces a new underwater area, additional Pokémon, building customizations, and new food recipes.
Koei Tecmo, a co-publisher of Pokémon Pokopia, has indicated a strategic shift towards diversifying its portfolio with ports, remasters, and smaller projects targeting dedicated fan communities. The success of Pokémon Pokopia appears to align with this strategy, demonstrating positive returns for the company.
