Pokémon Pokopia has sold over five million units on the Nintendo Switch 2, making it the console's second best-selling game. This sales milestone was achieved in just four months following the game's launch. According to official figures, this means that 21% of the Switch 2's 23.68 million owners have purchased Pokémon Pokopia.
The title's success follows strong critical and player reception. It holds an average critic score of 89 on Metacritic, with 97% of critics recommending it on OpenCritic. Player ratings are also exceptionally high, with an 8.7 user score on Metacritic and a perfect 100% rating from players on OpenCritic. The game has been described as a "charming life sim" that combines elements of community building and relationship development between Pokémon, drawing comparisons to titles like Animal Crossing and Dragon Quest Builders 2.
Pokémon Pokopia represents a departure for The Pokémon Company, focusing more on social simulation and creature interaction than previous mainline entries. The game recently received its first downloadable content expansion, the Bubbly Basin, which introduced a new underwater region populated by water-type Pokémon and new gameplay mechanics allowing players to dive beneath the surface, enabled by an in-game feature tied to Manaphy.
A second DLC pack is planned for release later in 2026, which is expected to add new customization options for Pokémon, including clothing and accessories. The success of Pokémon Pokopia positions it as a significant title in the Switch 2's library, trailing only Mario Kart World in sales, a title that was notably bundled with the console at its launch.
