Pokémon TCG Pocket is set to receive a significant update this October with the introduction of dual-type cards. This new card mechanic, revealed during a panel at the PokémonXP event in San Francisco, brings a long-standing feature from the physical Pokémon Trading Card Game into the popular mobile title.

The first dual-type card to be added will be Mega Mewtwo X ex, a Psychic/Fighting-type Pokémon. This card will feature 180 HP and an ability called Dual Impact, which grants an additional 40 damage if a stadium card is in play. The addition was showcased in a recent trailer for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which also confirmed that ex cards for partner Pokémon Piplup and Fuecoco would be released in October.

Dual-type Pokémon have been a part of the core video games since their inception and were integrated into the physical TCG in the mid-2000s. Over the decades, numerous dual-type Pokémon cards have been released. Their absence in Pokémon TCG Pocket was somewhat surprising, though the game has continued to offer a vast collection of cards for players.

While Mega Mewtwo X ex is currently the only confirmed dual-type card for the mobile game, The Pokémon Company has indicated that more will follow. An accompanying blog post on the Pokémon website suggests that the October update will also launch a new series of expansions for Pokémon TCG Pocket, signaling continued support for the live service game. The introduction of dual-type and additional ex cards promises to expand the strategic possibilities within Pokémon TCG Pocket.
