The 2026 Pokémon World Championships concluded with a series of major announcements from The Pokémon Company, detailing upcoming releases across film, competitive events, and its popular mobile and TCG titles. Key among these were the reveal of a new animated movie, the host city for the 2027 World Championships, and substantial updates for Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE.
New Animated Film and World Championships Location
A new animated Pokémon movie, titled "Pokémon Wild Card," is set to release in 2027. This marks the first new animated Pokémon film in seven years and will reportedly feature a Pokémon Trading Card Game player and a Mimikyu. Looking ahead, the 2027 Pokémon World Championships will be held in Singapore, signifying a return to Asia for the event for the first time since 2023, when it took place in Yokohama, Japan.
Pokémon GO and TCG Updates
Significant additions are headed to Pokémon GO. Starting with the Pokémon GO Fest 2026 Mega Finale, eligible Mega-Evolved Pokémon will receive an extra Charged Attack. Furthermore, Armored Mewtwo will be returning to the game for the first time in six years. The Pokémon Trading Card Game will also see a new set teased, featuring the Legendary Beasts Raikou, Suicune, and Entei, alongside new "Mega Attack Rare cards."
Pokémon UNITE Roster Expansion and Esports Future
Pokémon UNITE is set to expand its playable roster this fall with the addition of Flareon, Jolteon, Morpeko, and Toxtricity. Morpeko is scheduled to arrive on September 4th, followed by Toxtricity (Amped Form) on September 24th. Jolteon and Flareon will be added in October, completing the Eeveelution line with all eight evolutions now playable alongside Eevee itself. This roster expansion follows the Pokémon UNITE world championships, where Zeta Division emerged victorious. The announcement also marks a shift for the game's competitive scene, as next year will feature a dedicated tournament, "Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo," tentatively scheduled for late March 2027, separate from the main Pokémon World Championships.
Additional Announcements and Future Focus
Beyond the major game and event announcements, the concurrent PokémonXP fan convention also saw related reveals. A trailer was shown for "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu," an upcoming series exclusive to Disney+ and DisneyXD. Additionally, the Fitbit Air Special Edition Pokémon Sleep was unveiled. Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, also spoke at PokémonXP about the company's potential future focus on integrating Pokémon with wearable technology.
