Police in Derbyshire, UK, have gained viral attention for a TikTok video that playfully mocked a criminal apprehended after a car chase. The constabulary pointed out that the suspect's actions would cause him to miss the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
The video, posted on November 3, features footage of officers pursuing a van through residential streets, overlaid with elements of the GTA 6 user interface, including a three-star wanted rating and a minimap. The chase concluded with the suspect's arrest.
The individual, identified as 28-year-old Jack Vickrage, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, drug-driving, and cannabis possession. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison. Derbyshire Constabulary captioned their post, "Could've just waited a few more weeks for GTA 6 to drop... Now Jack's in prison for release day." They added, "Thirteen years is a long time to wait for the game, but nothing excuses driving like this in real life. Cutting corners and hurtling through residential streets with pedestrians and other vehicles in the middle of the day... save that stuff for the streets of Vice City."
Commenters reacted positively to the police department's video, with many suggesting the social media administrator deserved recognition. One user joked, "15 more days to go, he can watch us play from prison."
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19. Rockstar Games recently confirmed the game's substantial install size of up to 212 GB and its global release times, advising players to ensure they have adequate space for pre-loading. The upcoming release has generated significant cultural excitement, evidenced by Rockstar's marketing initiatives, including a Vice City-themed takeover in Miami and special GTA 6-themed jerseys for the Miami Heat. Xbox also unveiled a custom alligator-shaped Xbox Series X console as part of a sweepstakes.
Anticipation for GTA 6 remains high, with many fans planning to take time off work or school to play the game upon its release. A recent survey indicated a strong level of fan dedication, with some participants expressing willingness to temporarily give up pets for early access.
